What happened to spending quality time together?

What happened to the good old days when we sat down at dinner and spent quality time discussing our days and sharing our lives? The sad truth is that most people today sit down at dinner and even with friends with their phones attached to their hands. I am not sure how many of you realize how rude it is when you’re trying to share something with someone and they’re glued to their phones.

I recently experienced this with a loved one and when I asked her to please not be rude and give me a minute of her attention, her response was “I have to check my social media, I have not been able to all day”. Mind you, I had not seen her all day either.

At any rate, this has become a true epidemic. How can we fix it? Starting today, establish a “no phones at the table” rule at home or with friends. I am sure there are some of you who do this already as I do, just not enough. Our kids are growing up accepting this otherwise and will never know what it’s like to sit down and enjoy the company of the people you are with. Look around at new parents today. They have a tablet plopped in front of their toddlers as much as possible or hand them their phones while they are driving. All this to keep them busy and not bother them. This is how we are creating and programming tablet and phone dependent human beings.

What do you think?
